The Dollar Thrifty car rental company discount travel sites has said it will defend discount travel sites an acquisition bid by industry leader Hertz before US authorities in the same way it defended a competing offer from Avis.Dollar Thrifty "has agreed to cooperate with Hertz Global Holdings, Inc. with respect to Hertz's efforts to pursue antitrust regulatory clearance of its proposed acquisition," it said in a statement Thursday."As previously announced on May 9, 2011, Dollar Thrifty's board of directors will review and consider Hertz's exchange offer, which has not yet been commenced," it added.

Avis Budget Group (CAR) said today it wants to make an acquisition offer for Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group (DTG) to rival Hertz Global Holdings (HTZ) offer, which Dollar Thrifty has already agreed to.
Avis released the contents of a letter from its CEO to Dollar Thrifty, in which Avis chairman and CEO Ronald Nelson said he was surprised to learn of Dollars agreement with Hertz, as he had been planning to meet with Dollar CEO Scott Thompson regarding a potential discount travel sites deal between their two companies.
