If the raft was in open waters, and the weather was less than gale force, the cruise ship could have relatively discounted hotels in toronto easily rendered discounted hotels in toronto assistance. The launch of a lifeboat, could easily have reached the raft. Cost to the cruise line: the fuel used by the lifeboat, and a half an hour or so of holding in place close to the raft. I hope the ship's captain ends up in Maritime court. As a Navy officer, we would have ended our career by not making maximum effort to rescue them. We regularly did man overboard rescues, including launching motor whale boats and practicing the maneuvers necessary to return to the spot where a man is sighted. What is the cruise ship's excuse...the nets and shirts excuse doesn't fly. If this boat was truly engaged in net fishing, they would have flown flags to warn off ships from their nets. And waving shirts? Waving shirts is ALWAYS to be considered a sign of distress. discounted hotels in toronto (I'd be willing discounted hotels in toronto to bet the raft didn't even have functioning comms.)
It's the "Volendam" ( not ll ) I took a 14 day cruise once, out of NYC to the Carribean on the M.S. Kungsholm, which was a Holland ship. Service was excellent, no problems, fantastic trip. I say "Holland Lines are #1 "
In regards to Princess neglecting to aid a fishing vessel,,,ironically,,I was on the Golden Princess back in Sept of 2009 (crossing the pacific to Hawaii) when a fishing vessel with 2 people and 2 dogs sent a distress signal out. We traveled 150 miles north out of our way to rescue them and it took all day. It cost Princess approx discounted hotels in toronto $90,000 in fuel to divert his course and brought them onboard with no injuries to either man or woman or the dogs. I was VERY IMPRESSED with their handling of the situation and of course it shorten our day on one of the islands but it was absolutely worth saving their lives.
I like Holland America line and the last cruise on that ship, I won, it only cost me $1200 for the win of 2 cruises on Holland America's line. Taxes, and they never tell you that when you buy those sweepstakes tickets.
Why are some Captians so gung ho on endangering all the passangers, for "closer looks" or "saluting" Ships are Beautiful Machines, but the need to stay boyant to stay afloat. Why do some captians risk all that for a few minutes of secenery?Did the Costa Concordia mean nothing to these guys. And shouldn't they have known the rocks were there. If they were a sight seeing boat that would mean they were local, and sholud have known
The real story was in the last paragraph and video. "A Princess Cruise ship allegedly neglected to aid a distressed fishing vessel in the Pacific in April. The sole survivor from the stranded boat is suing Princess Cruises, as are family members of one of the men who died." Princess Cruise Line better get the old check book out and fill up the ink pen to the max there are going to be alot of zeros behind some whole number.
Agreed! I've been on both. They are like apples & oranges when comparing the two. Customer service discounted hotels in toronto on the Holland America was excellent, as far as the Princess, it was just a big, dirty floating meat market. Holland America makes sure to quarantine customers from helping themselves to the buffet for three days, while on the Princess, they allow you to help yourselves the first day. That may also be why they have many more outbreaks of the stomach virus on their cruise lines. Also, they allowed like 15 kids to stay in their hot tub from sun up to sun down without even putting chemicals into it the whole time. It was gross! I know they are a sister cruise ship to Holland America but I would never, discounted hotels in toronto ever go on one of their cruises again.
No question there. I've been on Holland America lines and they are AWESOME! THe food isoutstanding, the excursions are great, discounted hotels in toronto the service on board is spectacular discounted hotels in toronto and everyone (employees) is always smiling. They can't seem to do enough for their passengers. Mind you, Holand America is owned by Carnival Cruise as are othgerlines. However, Holland America tops the list of great passenger lines and customer satisfaction. The costs are very reasonable for what you get. I'm a HUGE Holland America fan!!!!!
