Alaska Airlines and in-flight internet provider gogo have announced a promotion for passengers to receive 15 minutes of free connectivity in-flight on most of the carrier s routes. The promotion is valid through out August 2012 and covers flights on the west coast and in Alaska.
The promotion covers all flights operating wholly within or between the Pacific and Alaska time zones. That s the lion s share of the Alaska Airlines route network which means plenty of opportunities for passengers to enjoy the connectivity, at least for a few minutes.
The free 15 minutes worked perfectly on our recent ANC-ADK flight (even though that flight technically goes between the Alaska and Hawaii-Aleutian time zones ). Had I paid for wifi on that flight, it would have expired about 5 minutes after the free session ended.
15 minutes is about right to send my outbox out into the ether and pick up anything aloha airlines coupons new that happened during the 2-hour flight to LAX. If I want to waste time I can log into Milepoint, which is free outside the 15 minute promo.
