On Wednesday August 1, Holiday Inn celebrated its 60 th anniversary of being an hotelier group tour companies to the world. On that day, the Holiday Inn Solomons Conference Center Marina celebrated the event by introducing a free cocktail party for all guests. "This celebration is for all guests and is included with the price of the room," said Hotel Owner John Simpson.
Also, on Wednesday, Simpson showered his employees with his company's annual profit sharing distribution at an employee party. "Most come to us with any investments or savings and we like to make sure everyone leaves here with something they can fall back on," said Simpson.
Simpson said that the year-long cocktail party for guests was an idea he had to not only give back to those who support group tour companies the hotel and restaurant, but to introduce services and amenities that other area hotels cannot.
Simpson's Simpson Land Company opened the Solomons facility on May 2, 1987, over 25 years ago with the hotel going through a number of renovations and additional amenities. "We put $4.5 million into our most recent renovation and received one of the highest recognition awards Holiday Inn gives for our efforts," said Simpson.
He admits that the hotel business has experienced some tough times during the current economy, but that the facility has done well even with all the economic group tour companies problems. Simpson group tour companies gave a lot of credit to his staff and to the proximity to important area facilities such as NAS PAX and the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant.
The Hotel is also headquarters for a number of area functions such as the Screw Pile races and more. Simpson indicated that the hotel supports a number of different charities including Habitat for Humanity and others.
