If your flight is cancelled , this provides you, the consumer, with additional options. One option is canceling the ticket(s) and getting a full refund. If you wish to travel, you may have additional flexibility when it comes to your new dates of travel.
Should you have any prepaid, non-refundable travel items such as hotels (i.e. priceline bid, hotwire) and no travel insurance, you can try to work with them. If you have travel insurance, such claims are typically straight-forward.
