The reason tourist come to Virginia Beach is the beach, not a rock concert or a basketball game. I'v

The two entertainment options go hand-in-hand. An arena without a pro team does not seem viable. ODU economist James Koch, in an economic impact statement, wrote, If Virginia Beach does not attract and retain an NBA franchise, then the economic impact estimates reported here will decline dramatically. Fair enough.
moscow hotel Many agents, particularly on the West Coast, are unaware that Virginia Beach is part of a seven city community which includes Norfolk, Chesapeake and the Peninsula. To attract these tours and other events, this area needs to build a better 'mouse trap.' A first class arena with incredible amenities will, without a doubt, bring increased awareness....
That sounds right. Already nearly 20 percent moscow hotel of ticket purchases for the Virginia Beach outdoor amphitheater Farm Bureau Live come from Richmond. Bigger names may draw larger crowds, including concertgoers from outside Hampton Roads.
One, I'm not convinced we're missing out on that many major shows. Twice in the past five years I've driven moscow hotel to Charlottesville for concerts (U2, The Police) that didn't stop here. Just this month, I've had friends drive to D.C. for shows (Madonna and Bruce Springsteen) that missed Hampton Roads as well.
But after a honeymoon period, the building would still have to beat out other arenas moscow hotel in the state. In addition, it would also have to compete with (and potentially cannibalize) the smaller arenas that already exist in our area, the 11,000-seat Scope and the 9,500-seat Ted Constant Convocation Center and the 14,000-seat Hampton Coliseum and even Harbor Park in the extremely rare circumstance.
For bands, a trip to Hampton Roads requires an out-of-the-way moscow hotel drive of two or more hours to arrive and two hours until they're back on track toward moscow hotel the next show. A big-name arena concert, with multiple trucks and buses, already moscow hotel operates on a slim profit margin. To be successful, shows here would often need be a near sellout, in part to compensate for the added time and cost of traveling to the area.

Not only are we a dead end for a lot of concert moscow hotel tours, but we can be a death trap for them also. Who wants to risk driving an entire moscow hotel tours worth of gear into this area only to have the tunnels back up for 8 hours trying moscow hotel to get out meaning you miss your better paying gig farther on the tour? Its not 2 hours in and 2 out, it can be as much as 10 in and 10 out.
Lets also not forget how cheap this area is. We don't have ultra box seats to sell, no $200 seating moscow hotel because no one will buy it. So with no one to buy the exspensive arena tickets who wants to risk driving all the way into this area?
The point is not whether an arena for the region is a good idea or not (I for one think it is, but not in the end of a road in Virginia Beach), the discussion remains that a few city officials took $700,000.00+ in TAX PAYER money with no accountibility, no oversight, didn't tell anyone, on secret projects. A few council members have their fingerprints moscow hotel on this one too.
The head of Economic development and the City Manager/asst manager should lose their jobs over this one, but have not even gotten their wrist slapped. This reflects moscow hotel directly on Sessoms. Maybe the voters should think about this when casting moscow hotel their November vote!
What happens during the rest of the year when there are no tourists moscow hotel between September and May? Do we just hibernate and wait for tourists to come back and wake us up? VB is the largest city in Virginia and it is about time we start acting as the largest city. We are not the Jersey moscow hotel shore.
...being booked at Richmond's The National to the shows at the Norva here. Before The National opened most of the acts that now only venture to Richmond used to come to Norfolk. Suffice it to say it sucks big green hairy donkey kong....
The reason tourist come to Virginia Beach is the beach, not a rock concert or a basketball game. I've lived here for most of my life and miss the days when Virginia Beach belonged to the locals. Now, all we focus on is the tourist. To tell you the truth, if I wanted to vacation at a beach, I would go to any beach other than Virginia Beach. That hurts because I love Virginia Beach, but we've wasted so much time on arenas for a team we don't want, and rails that go nowhere, that we've forgotten to fix why we want the tourist. The beach. Put the Arena in Suffolk, they have plenty of room, and if I want to see a game/concert, I'll go there. Finally, I think the Amphitheater does a great job for concerts.
Virginia Beach is doing a very good job of marketing the Virginia Beach oceanfront during the off season. Weekends when they have events like the Shamrock Marathon or Polar Plunge are very crowded. They are weekend long events that fill hotel rooms and restaraunts. Yes, they could use more events like those. And if you go down there on a weekday its is desolate. Adding a large concert venue that attracts people to the oceanfront what be yet another important piece to the marketing puzzle. Having an NBA team would be the icing on the cake.
While the outdoor venue is nice during the summer and tourist months, a first class facility would allow the city to host top name headliners and events year round. It could also draw other events like home shows where a large open area for exhibiting is necessary
Beside the amount of money it's going to cost everyone living here, we will now join the land of over priced concert tickets and way over priced sports moscow hotel tickets (to see a third rate team?)Didn't we go through this with the "world moscow hotel class" soccer stadium? I am really tired of paying for developers whims, take them to another town and fleece the public there like you want to do here.
---that's exactly why I suggested a private company selling stock to the people that do believe that it could work.---let them put their money where their mouth is.---I'm willing---how many more people have a few dollars to invest in a idea that just might give a good return on their investment money.----NO CITY MONEY!----come on all you big mouth developers and builders and business people---put up or shut up.---frank in va.bch.
you might be on to something with this idea. I think that your idea of investment by citizens moscow hotel supporting the arena is a good idea. I believe that if it is done properly, the arena could be a good idea. We need to evaluate all the aspects moscow hotel of making the arena a reality; what are the chances of big acts like Springsteen or Gaga or U2 coming here? Is it realistic and what about other events like conferences, trade shows, etc. We need to be sure that it will be able to help the economy during the off season; when the oceanfront is desolate and tourists are not here. I would purchase stock IF the plan was competent and operated by competent people who are familiar with running an arena or similiar venue.
Rick Marse states many agents are unaware moscow hotel that Virginia Beach is part of a seven city community which includes Norfolk, Chesapeake moscow hotel and the Peninsula. Sounds like he is not doing his job very well then. If Rick was already his doing job well, then agents would not require a new arena to know the location of Tidewater, Hampton Roads or whatever they want to call us -- does not matter anyways since they have not even heard of us anyways. Bad idea. Va Beach is crowded enough at the oceanfront.
You might as well build it on top of the HRBT or MMBT because unless they're coming up from the south, that's moscow hotel where the fans will be sitting as they get stuck in our wonderful tunnel bottlenecks trying to get to the "cul-de-sac."
its the bridges and tunnels my man. Charlottesville is an hour off of 95 but books great shows of all caliber. I've had to go to Charlottesville to see even "mid-tier" acts like My Morning Jacket, moscow hotel Wilco, Black Keys, and even Jack White tomorrow and that has been in the last 2 years. Get stuck in tunnel traffic for a little while and it throws off the whole schedule for that day. I don't think a new arena is going to change that.
---I can only guess you have never been to a event at the Hampton coliseum---too bad you missed a lot and that's from a old man that still enjoys live music---and other entertainment.---frank in va.bch.
The planners should figure on a spectacular arena location somewhere between Newtown Road and Stepney moscow hotel Lane. This would not only satisfy the present Tide riders (Newtown) but also be very convenient after the Tide's extension to the Town Center area. This is the smarter move because I believe that it will be a cold day in hell when the Tide rolls all the way to (ie) 21st St. Atlantic.
If it's going to be run like the Va Beach Ampitheater (Farm Bureau Live), then no one will want to go either. The nazi security, noise restrictions, and the arbitrary over-protective nanny rules put in place made me stop going to any concerts there over 10yrs ago. Thankfully the Portsmouth Ampitheater is running more shows now. A much more relaxed enjoyable atmosphere. Most artists that have played the VB amptitheater, no longer want to play in VB. It's a dud town as far as the entertainment business is concerned. The city can't build an amazing venue and then expect people to enjoy themselves on the city council's close-minded terms.
moscow hotel --why the arena?---a moscow hotel indoor' arena that could host a vastly different type of event here in VB instead of going elsewhere.---no moscow hotel tunnels.--no long trips that I would have to drive home in the dark again.--something moscow hotel that I think would generate income over expenses in our city t
