VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A town hall meeting scheduled for Tuesday evening will address a growing trash problem at the Virginia Beach landfill on Centerville turnpike. Plans were in place to "beautify" london travel the landfill, london travel even nickname it Mt. Thrashmore II.
"My concern is, how are [they] going to cover up a 300 foot tall pile of junk?" activist David Hummel. who lives near the landfill, said. "I've been here for 28 years, and it was supposed to be closed by now."
Hummel says his understanding is that the now 160-foot high landfill would reach almost the height of the Westin Virginia Beach Town Center, which is 413 feet tall to the roof and 508 feet to the top of the antenna.  Barnes says there are no plans to raise the landfill to 300 feet or more.
