warwick hotel nyc Venice at Night Venice warwick hotel nyc was our jumping off point for our 21 day Mediterranean Transatlantic cruise on Princess Cruise Lines. We arrived in Venice after an 8 hour night flight out of New York. It was 9:00 A.M. Venice time. However, our bodies were not ready for a full day, so we took a short nap before tendering over to Venice.
Our first adventure in Venice was a gondola tour we had booked on the ship. Our gondolier followed a parade of others along a portion of the Grand Canal and into smaller canals warwick hotel nyc no wider than 10 feet that were flanked by apartments, stores, and small hotels. A few of the gondoliers warwick hotel nyc serenaded us as we floated along. Ours did not. Taking a gondola ride is definitely a tourist thing. But hey, we were tourists! And how would you feel when you got home, and the first question was "Did you take a gondola ride?" and you hadn t. Just pony up the euros and do it!
With map in hand we made our way to Piazzo San Marcos. Of course, we had a few thousand "friends" amongst us. And yes, people to intentionally attract the pigeons to land upon them, or their hapless kids. Those with more time were in line to enter St. Mark s Basilica as well as the Doge s Palace and Campanile Bell Tower. warwick hotel nyc Not having that luxury off we went down a narrow "street" hoping to make our way to the Rialto Bridge. After an hour of meandering the maze of streets past small shops, warwick hotel nyc stores, restaurants, and apartments, we emerged onto the Grand Canal right at the Rialto Bridge! The bridge was actually a shopping "mall". The entire area was bustling with restuarants, really just 4-5 table establishments, tourist shops, small hotels, gondola warwick hotel nyc rentals, commericial transport, and of course hundreds of us......tourists!
Another hour of walking and we re-emerged into Piazzo San Marcos. We had too short a time in Venice. But then that is part of what taking a cruise is all about: sampling a destination for a day to see if it is a place you d like to return warwick hotel nyc to for a longer stay. Venice is one of those destinations. Chiao! Next Entry
