Caladiums have been grown in Lake Placid, Florida since the early 1940s, but this will be the 22nd year that the little town will hold its Caladium Festival to celebrate the crop. Festival-goers are encouraged to enjoy an air-conditioned bus tour of the colorful caladium fields that have been compared to the tulip fields of Holland. Other festivities include arts and crafts, food and refreshments, classic car and bike displays and more.
Lake Placid has more to brag about than just caladiums. More than 40 murals grace its buildings, giving it the nickname Town of Murals. The award-winning art is set amid antique stores, gift shops and quality restaurants making for a unique way to spend a day. Also, new this year, the festival has been expanded to include significant aspects of Lake Placid's history, including the area's growing grape and wine industry.
