I am very pleased to be writing this article london boutique hotels where I want to share with you my summer internship experience with a Non-Governmental Organisation with special Consultative Status with the United Nations (UN) called Initiatives of Changes (IofC). In some countries IofC is also known as Moral Re-Armament (MRA), the original name used by founder Frank Buchman. I hope my experience london boutique hotels will have valuable information for any student wishing to do summer internships that compliments your studies during the long summer holidays.
The first time I heard about Initiatives of Change (IofC) was in 2011 at the University of Bradford Women's Initiative (UBUWI) meeting when then vice chairperson Getty Musiiwa presented a talk about the School for Changemakers (SfCM) with the aim to give opportunities to women in search of empowerment and opportunities to develop themselves and gain a better understanding and experience of real world of International Relations. It was an interesting and informative session and I remember wanting to find out more even after the meeting. I took the decision to participate that year in the School for Changemakers in order to develop myself and gain new experience and skills.
'The School for Changemakers (SfCM) is a residential leadership development initiative for high potential people who want to explore inner and outer dimensions of change'. It helps university age people whose interests are in leading change and wanting to explore something higher than standard education. It exists as a partnership between IofC UK, iGenius Liverpool Hope University which is the SfCM conference venue. The plenary sessions at SfCM 2011 gave me insights london boutique hotels into inspirational people, their life personal experiences, what inspired change london boutique hotels in their lives and initiatives that were born out of these experiences. I become inspired and gained more confidence in my choice of degree I had pursued at Bradford and also opened up a whole new world of opportunities that had not been made available for me on campus. I had come back from SfCM that year with a list of opportunities for internships during the summer in Switzerland, the home of the Initiatives of Change international organisation. Therefore, I decided at the end of the conference to get more involved with IofC. I stayed in touch with SfCM and in April 2012 had yet another opportunity to take part in the SfCM Fundraising Gala held in London london boutique hotels at the IofC UK headquarters. london boutique hotels At the University of Bradford, london boutique hotels a group had been set up on Facebook, 'University of Bradford School london boutique hotels for Changemakers Delegation' with the hope of getting many Peace Studies students involved with IofC. Several london boutique hotels internships opportunities had been posted to the group in January 2012 and applied for a summer internship as a Conference Assistant on the very day to increase my chances of getting accepted. I received an acceptance letter in April and started making preparations to travel to Switzerland from end of June to end of July. Before my internship london boutique hotels began, I attended SfCM 2012 again.
The internship programme was divided in two sections: work section then workshops trainings. I was working london boutique hotels as a Conference Assistant which gave me the chance london boutique hotels to work close with the Conference Team and get to know more about the Conference Programme. The internship gave me the chance london boutique hotels to attend various conferences that took place at IofC International Conference Centre in Switzerland during the summer. Such included the Caux Forum for Human Security; Learning to Live in a Multicultural World; Trust and Integrity in Global Economy conferences. I have to mention the fact that the conferences that took place at IofC International Conference Centre london boutique hotels were additional reasons to apply for the internship. I believe now that the conferences gave me a better understanding of what International Relations was all about. I had an opportunity to meet ministers of governments and delegates from South Sudan the newest state in Africa and talk to them and ask questions. South Sudan at that time was just celebrating its first independence. I had a chance to meet Kevin Rudd, 26th Prime Minister of Australia who is famous for his 'The Apology' speech to the aborigines, Australia's native people. london boutique hotels I met many people including from my university doing amazing work to promote peace and development in the world. It made me understand in more practical way my chosen degree course in International Relations. The internship gave me a better understanding on the role of civil society and role of International NGOs and furthered my understanding on the impact of international NGOs on civil society and how NGOs contribute to the international development.
As a result of a successful internship accomplishment I am pleased to say that I have the intention to develop further collaboration with IofC. I feel more confident than before. By meeting london boutique hotels amazing and empowering women at my university, who made it possible for me to reach out to such opportunities, and meeting in real life people that play a massive role in the international community I realise london boutique hotels that I can also do the same. The international environment that exists within IofC gave me a profound opportunity to learn about people that come from different countries and cultures, to discover the diversity that exists around london boutique hotels the world.
