San Miguel is the urban heart of Cozumel and it keeps the traditional spirit of the coastal town ali

The magic and charm of Cozumel travel is everywhere. My family and I first found it on the narrow streets of San Miguel ; which is reminiscent of the traditional cultures. We found charm in its architecture, on the Mayan roads impregnated with history, and its numer ous coral reefs , and its fabulous marine reserves .
San Miguel is the urban heart of Cozumel tour buses in alaska and it keeps the traditional spirit of the coastal town alive. Amongst its attractions are the Plaza of the Sun or Zocalo with its crowded seaside promenade. Zocalos once served as the central square, and were originally the most crucial part of a city; as they consolidated the rule of the conquistadors. Zocalo's were the symbolic representation of Spanish power; as each square had both church and crown represented in the surrounding buildings. As my family strolled through this oasis of stone and shade we found flowering trees and low stone walls that offered us a great place to relax and do some people-watching. This Cozumel vacation town is located on the western part of the island where most of the hotels, restaurants, jewelery stores, artisans, and other commercial establishments are located. If you want to escape the tourists completely like we did, you must also check out where real Cozumele os shop; just put your back to the pier and walk straight up into town on Benito Juarez Avenue. And don't forget to make a stop at the island's oldest market, El Mercado on your Cozumel vacation.
Then there is the Cedral which is the most ancient architectural structure in Cozumel tour buses in alaska . It dates from the year 800 DC and, according to some; it was the first Mayan temple discovered by the Spaniards when they first arrived on the island in 1518. It was the Spanish Conquistadors who tore down the Mayan temple, and then during World War II, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers destroyed more to make way for the island's first airport. Today, there is not much of this once significant Mayan temple remaining; but you can still see a small portion of this once historic site. If it is ruins you wish to see these will not suffice. During the first week of May, which happens to be the anniversary of the first Catholic mass in Mexico, coincidentally, first celebrated in El Cedral; you might just see the annual festival held at El Cedral to commemorate the Day of the Holy Cross. This celebration honors the safe passage of the eleven founding families who fled the mainland to Cozumel in 1848 during La Guerra tour buses in alaska de Castas ( The Caste War ). At the festival/fair, both residents and visitors tour buses in alaska can enjoy the many food stands, games, dancing, and shopping. Particularly of note are the Head of the Boar and The Ribbons traditional folkloric dances tour buses in alaska which are performed on May 3rd , The day of the Holy Cross ( D a de la Santa Cruz ). The event also features cattle exhibitions, races, rides and bullfights.
Chankannabe Park has some great vacation packages and is one of my families favorite Cozumel spots. This park features snorkeling , some decent eateries, tour buses in alaska and has a terrific beach. You will certainly find Cozumels all inclusive vacations at this park. In addition to all that, there's a whole historical section that features replicas of Mayan homes and monuments.
If you go you must stop at Carlos n Charles. I know, I know, Carlos n Charlies is a little cheesy, a little touristy but you will love it; but beware there are usually some non family friendly frivolity going on . The food is not authentic but it's decent. The world famous margaritas will knock you off your feet and maybe you'll join in on the frivolity.
Then there's the authentic San Gervasio ruins which feature nine buildings that form an enclosed patio. The site was dedicated to the Mayan goddess Ixchel , ('She of the Rainbows') goddess of the moon, water, midwifery, fertility, and weaving . The site has two nice examples of Sacbe (ancient white roads), and the 'Temple Of The Hands'. What was rather pleasant and unexpected was that all of the ruins are located in a beautiful, tropical setting. San Gervasio is definitely worth your time and can be done in just a couple of hours.
which is more than just a nice place to spend a rainy day. for a cheap Cozumel vacation. On the first floor of the museum is an exhibit about Cozumel's endangered species , the origin of the island, and its present-day topography and plant and animal life, including tour buses in alaska an explanation of coral formation. The second-floor tour buses in alaska galleries feature the history of the town, artifacts from the island's pre-Hispanic sites, and colonial-era cannons, swords, and ship paraphernalia. It won't take up your entire day but it's certainly worth and hour or two of your time.
