Nothing beats Streetwise when it comes to stuffing a map in your purse or suitcase. I own Streetwise maps for pretty much every city I ve visited in the US and abroad. They re easy to read, and are pretty much indestructible. What a great little map. I used it for my two days on the Manhattan subway and couldnt have been more satisfied. The plastic coating on the paper made it strong. I must have folded and unfolded it 50 different times with no tearing. It folds down to slightly larger than the size of a business card. Water resistant and accurate as it says it was updated for 2011. Highly recommended for less than $2. I used it in tandem with their full size manhattan map ..
I visited NYC this past fall, and am planning another trip in April. I had a terrible time trying to get subway information to load on my smart phone while in NY (I swear they must have cell phone jammers near the Statue of Liberty), so I thought I d go ahead and get this map. I love the size. It is small enough that it will fit in a pocket. It is also very discreet, so I won t be walking around with a 2 x 2 map screaming I m a tourist! I hate having to use the big map on the subway wall and trying to read the maps in the subway cars while sitting 8 feet away from them. I think this map will be a huge asset and I cannot wait to use it.
I d recommend this foldable laminated map to people who will live or work in Midtown area, otherwise a full Manhattan streetwise map ( Streetwise Manhattan Map Laminated City Street Map of Manhattan, New York with integrated subway lines and stations bus map) would be more helpful.
I would buy both a streetwise map of manhattan and a Not For Tourist Guide. The former is for a complete view of the whole island, and the latter is for much more comprehensive information of each part of Manhattan.
This little guide got us around easily on our first trip to NY. It s laid out much clearer and easier than the maps you can get off the MTA site and got us as close to our destinations as possible. Would definitely recommend.
I purchased this to take on a five day trip to NYC. It is a sturdy laminated card that is scored to fold into thirds, which is the perfect size for a jacket or back jeans pocket. Also the perfect size to be somewhat inconspicuous if you don t want everyone to know you re a tourist. We did a lot of subway riding on multiple lines and found the information provided to be accurate. This little map even indicated which trains on multi-train routes stop at the stations they don t all stop at every one!
I got this along with the Manhattan map from Streetwise. The bus map side is included on their regular Manhattan map but the stand alone subway map is not so this was very convenient because of its size. I prefer to not stare at the maps on the wall in the subway cars (hey look everybody I m a tourist) nor do i want to broadcast los angeles traffic accidents I have an iPhone either trying to look for directions. The lamination takes a real beating, i could probably use this a thousand times without it ripping. Highly recommended along with their Manhattan map for more coverage.
