About the middle of August until very early in September, my wife and I headed off to take a two week river cruise through France. We started in the north, touring some of the small towns along the river and covering the beaches used for the D-Day invasion of WWII.
There are many companies doing river cruises, my wife had looked into several and settled on Uniworld. We had used them last year for a river cruise though France, Germany and Austria. This took us from Paris to Vienna. This year, we started in Paris and ended up in Aix en Provence.
Something to note: We used KLM to fly over. We had used them to get to Europe last year and found them to be quite good. However, there are some ups and downs. The UP? In Pearson airport in Toronto, we were able to buy our way into their First Class Lounge. For $34 each, that certainly made the five hour wait much less boring. They even helped travel to india bombay my wife reach the plane. Unfortunately, at least at the Amsterdam location, this was not possible travel to india bombay in Europe. travel to india bombay The down luggage. They have the standard amount for checked luggage but carry-on seems to be calculated differently than others. Your total carry-on must be under a certain weight. This means that the computer/camera/purse you carry AND your carry on bag are included. In other airlines it seems that your computer/camera/purse are separate from your carry on bag. Perhaps one should invest in one of those Tilley vests or the Scottevest.
While flying over the UK, I noticed a very strange sight. Part of the sky was a very bright orange. While the included photo shows this, it really doesn t do it justice. It was much more impressive but I have no idea what it was or the cause of this glow.
We landed in Paris after the stop in Amsterdam. We had two nights travel to india bombay in Paris before we boarded the first of two ships we would be using for the two weeks. While in Paris we saw a number of sites as we went on a walking tour arranged by Uniworld. This tour was around our hotel but as it was central, we did see many interesting sites. The OPERA was one. It is beautiful and well worth the trip. The bottom picture is one of a mask used for a presentation at the Opera. The building itself is very impressive but some of the displays are incredible as well.
We also took an optional cruise on the Seine at night. This included dinner, took us by the tower as it was lit for night and other spots along the river. It was expensive and probably not really worth it. The meal was no better than average and you really didn t see all that much. In the morning we took a much cheaper cruise on the Seine covering the same basic route and enjoyed it just as much.
While in Paris, the company had us staying at the Hotel Ambassador. It is a very pleasant hotel, it came with a breakfast travel to india bombay as part of the package giving you a chance to explore and find places for lunch and dinner. We had stayed here last year before starting our trip through travel to india bombay France, Germany and Austria.
We have enjoyed Uniworld, their ships are constantly updated, the food is excellent and the service is very good. We had a problem on one of the ships we used this year but will travel with the company again. The beauty of this type of travel is that every day brings travel to india bombay a free guided tour with English speaking guides. Some extra tours at additional cost are available travel to india bombay but there is always at least one free tour. Time spent on deck is great, you get to see more than wave after wave which is often the case with ocean cruises. travel to india bombay Like all cruises, you get to meet some very interesting people, some part of the ship staff, some from other parts of the world.
Over the course of the next few posts, I ll try to give you some idea of what we saw and the day trips we took. Oh, and by the way, the link back to teardrops might be a bit of a stretch, however, I have one picture of an RV park in Europe. No Little Guy sad to say. I looked hard but found none.
