If you're a Northern California veteran who has waited a year for a decision on a war-related disability claim, you might consider a move to South Dakota – where the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs typically responds in less than half the time.
The geographic inequity of VA wait times is fully detailed for the first time in an analysis by the Center for Investigative Reporting. Simply put: Veterans in sparsely populated states often encounter quick resolution of their compensation claims for problems ranging from back injuries to post-traumatic stress disorder while those in metropolitan areas languish.
So far, change has headed in the wrong direction, despite increased media and political thrifty car rental ireland scrutiny. At the current rate, for example, it would take the VA three years to resolve every disability claim pending in San Diego – the office with the worst combination of backlog and clearance rate in June – if not a single additional claim were filed. In July, Los Angeles stepped into that worst overall slot.
That best-case scenario won't occur. In 2011, 1.3 million veterans filed claims for benefits, according to VA data, a combination of troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and aging Vietnam veterans, many with new claims based on illnesses the government now acknowledges stem from Agent Orange exposure. Since 2010, the agency has seen the number of new claims filed annually increase by 48 percent, while the number of claims representatives has increased by 5 percent.

The placement of Walmart stores on the map is not based on actual projected locations, Nguyen noted; there is no reliable information as to where Walmart is looking at sites.  Walmart will only say it has no stores to announce beyond the Chinatown site and another time travel forum in Panorama City.
The city of Los Angeles has for the most part blocked Walmart with a 2004 ordinance that requires an economic impact report of retailers who plan a Supercenter -sized store of 100,000 square feet-plus that sells groceries.

Living in any major city that is also a popular tourist destination like, say, Los Angeles means getting constant requests to pick up friends and relatives at the airport. That s no biggie; we like our friends and relatives, most of them anyway, and airport taxis can be pretty expensive. But Los Angeles is big; Los Angeles County is so huge, in fact, that plenty of out-of-towners have no idea what they re asking if they plan a lunch date with a Silver Lake or Los Feliz denizen in Venice Beach. Meet me at that taqueria on Venice Boulevard may mean something to a Los Angeles west sider , but it sure isn t specific enough for anyone northeast of downtown Los Angeles, and the drive can be an hour. I too saw this on face book and immediately snagged it up as well. I plan on putting it out there anytime an out of towner laments on how many cars there are in Los Angeles. You can t go anywhere without a car.
I love this map for its perspective! I ve been to six of the eight cities listed and this perfectly shows how other big cities pale in comparison to LA. In a single day, I ve walked all over San Francisco without hesitation but wouldn t even consider doing that in LA. Not because I m a victim of the nobody walks in LA mindset, but because its just too big!
Growing up here, I always just rolled my eyes at New Yorkers who think traveling from Battery Park to UWS was like SO FAR. Even today, I still don t get it. It s a subway ride! How bad can it be? At least you don t have to sit in your car. But like everything, it s all relative.
