Tomorrow we will head to The International Gallery of Photography before the MET gallery and a perfo
But alas, we are here in The Big Apple and LOVING IT!! The city is going through a heat wave at the moment, with temperatures in the high 30s. As the American s say, we are baking like toasted cheese , but it isn t stopping us from exploring as much of this fine city as possible!
We went for a night time bus tour of the city on our first night. It was highly informative and it was amazing to the experience the city lights but we were all so jet lagged from our flight and change in time zones from London. Tuesday turned out to be a 29 hour day, and in the end we were all very glad to be in our comfortable beds!!
The next day was the 4th of July holiday over here, and the streets were electric. We spent our day walking england travel some of Manhattan s famous streets (5th Avenue was a favourite for most!!) before venturing into Central Park where we visited england travel Strawberry Fields, the iconic Friends Fountain and basked in the genearl frivolity and buzz of the holiday. After dinner, we and several thousand others moved on to the Hudson River for the spectacular fireworks display.
After a day of relative rest, we were up at 7am for breakfast before going to the Empire State Building to beat the crowds. We enjoyed the history of the making of the building itself, but nothing could prepare us for the view from the 86th level. It was absolutely breathtaking!!
england travel Equally breathtaking was our next stop The Museum of Modern Art. It was difficult to take it all in, as everywhere we turned we saw another iconic england travel masterpiece frpm Picasso, Warhol, Monet, Kahlo, Dali, Pollock and so many more. It was awe inspiring!
Later we viewed the city from yet another angle this time, from the water! It was a perfect summer night, and once again, we were treated england travel to a history lesson about the great city. We had our first real glimpse of the Statue of Liberty england travel and our first view of the new Twin Towers buildings.
This morning we woke early for our first ride on the New York subway to visit Ground Zero. It was a very sombre mood down at the site, and despite being aged between 5 and 8 when the tragedy occured, the students really connected to the feeling of loss and despair. It also brought home many of the themes raised in the year 12 English text The Reluctant Fundamentalist and we were able to talk about how seeing the site first hand changed our perspective of the novel and especially the protagonist.
Tomorrow we will head to The International Gallery england travel of Photography before the MET gallery and a performance of Chicago in the evening. We will all be very sad to pack our bags tomorrow night before catching the train to the nation s capital the next day.
