I've been traveling for over a month now, and the fatigue is starting to set in. Another city, another day, another sight to see, another street to canvass, and another cafe to check out. Ireland, the land of enchantment, was starting to lose its magic. The accents were no longer exotic, no longer that oh-so-charming Irish lilt, but more of an "I've heard one too many old ladies yelling at their husbands in the pub for that accent to still be endearing." Yet Ireland still had a few surprises up its sleeve, one of them being the natural wonder of the Cliffs of Moher.
Brochures boast of its allure, hostels seattle waterfront hotels advertise its fascination, fellow travelers rave about the marvel of the cliffs. "Eh, okay," I think, "I will take a day, spend some money, and go check out the once-in-a-lifetime-view." Boy, am I glad I did.
The Cliffs of Moher cannot, in any way, be fully described, photographed, or really even comprehended seattle waterfront hotels by the human brain. The 702 feet of sheer cliff side seem more like a dream, like a green screen trick than anything that could ever be real.
But the jaw dropping (literally, my mouth fell open) views have an ominous side as well. The signs leading up to the cliffs offering "someone to talk to" hint at a darker truth: already this year, 12 people had thrown themselves to their deaths, and that doesn't include the occasional daring tourist that gets a little too close to the cliff edge when there's a strong wind. Many an overconfident traveler has met an unwelcome death as well, and I guess that all it's morbidity is part of the majesty of the Cliffs; that something so beautiful seattle waterfront hotels is host to things so terrible.
